What past papers looked like

The Computer Science (Class 11–12) papers from TRE 2.0 (2023) and TRE 3.0 (2024) used a three-part structure with five options per question:

Part

Subject

Questions

Counts in merit?

I

Language (English + Hindi)

30

No: qualifying

II

General Studies

40

Yes

III

Computer Science

80

Yes

The 2023 combined paper printed 150 maximum marks and 2 hours 30 minutes. A separate 2023 GS + Computer Science paper (120 questions, 2 hours) printed a one-fourth mark deduction for wrong answers, so read the marking rules in your own notification carefully.

Options D and E

  • (D) More than one of the above: choose it when two or more of A–C are correct.
  • (E) None of the above: choose it when none of A–C is correct.
  • Check every one of A–C before answering; the “obvious” option is often only part of the answer.

Computer Science topics seen in past papers

A 10-week plan

Weeks

Focus

1–3

Fundamentals, number systems, digital logic, C programming

4–6

Data structures, algorithms, OS, DBMS

7–8

Networks, software engineering, emerging tech; GS daily

9–10

Full-length mocks twice a week, error log, weak topics

Should you guess?

Only if wrong answers are penalised does guessing carry risk. With 5 options and −1/4 per wrong answer, a blind guess has expected value:

E=15(1)+45(−14)=0E = \tfrac{1}{5}(1) + \tfrac{4}{5}\left(-\tfrac{1}{4}\right) = 0

A blind guess breaks even; eliminating even one option makes guessing worthwhile. With no negative marking, never leave a question blank.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the official BPSC TRE 4.0 pattern?

No. This SAMPLE article describes past papers. Always follow the official BPSC TRE 4.0 notification.

Is the language part counted in the merit list?

In past papers Part I (Language) was qualifying only. Confirm the qualifying marks in the official notification.

When should I choose “More than one of the above”?

When at least two of options A, B and C are independently correct.
